2012 Infiniti Performance Line G Coupe

Infiniti Performance Line has started off strong with the new IPL G Coupe.  Infiniti has a nice luxury sport but left enthusiasts wanting more.  The IPL G is the first for Infiniti’s new performance line geared at taking on some of Germanys finest.  Infiniti has always had the luxury sport market and this is just a glimpse into the future of moving towards the AMG and M owners.

When I saw the G I didn’t instantly think g37, I noticed the sharper front fascia, bolder side skirts, and an overall more aggressive look.  The 19in IPL 7 spoke rims are very tasteful  and give you a peek at the IPL  four piston calipers up front.   A lowered stance is noticeable to give a track ready appearance while complimenting the rest of the lines.

The VQ 3.7L v-6 had some fine tuning squeezing out every bit of power without the help of forced induction (turbo) bringing an impressive 348hp and 276lb-ft torque.  This was achieved by a better flowing intake system and an IPL high-flow dual exhaust system.  The exhaust note is nice and throaty without a noisy baffled sound.  Taking this power to the 19’s is a 7 speed automatic feature called Drive Sport (DS) mode.  The 7 speed is nice on the highway and keeps the RPMs down at cruising speeds.  Magnesium paddle shifters work in small bouts at the lights and corners, but I would prefer a 6-speed option in the future.

Handling was notably better and I felt a lot of confidence in the corners due to the IPL tuned performance suspension.  The dampers did a great job keeping the car drivable on a daily basis without feeling every pebble.  Viscous rear limited slip and 245’s keep you planted while adding a sense of confidence around every turn.

The monaco red leather interior definitely stands out, but it is beautiful and very supportive.  I am not used to the 12 way adjustable seats, but you can really find the perfect driving position in this car.  Another feature that adds to driver enjoyment is the gauges that move when you adjust the wheel making sure you can always see your RPMS.  There is a hard drive for your music along with discreet iPOD and aux jacks in the center console.  The Bose sound system really brings the music out without getting overwhelmed by hard bass lines.

For just over $50,000.00 you are getting a luxury sports machine.  I pulled 20mpg in the city and 27mpg on the highway.   Good things are coming from Infiniti Performance Line in the future, and they are showing great advances in their performance tuning.
