2012 INFINITI G37 COUPE

The budget-minded consumer will be ecstatic with the bang for the buck factor in the G lineup. The base G25 sedan starts at just $32,600 and at the top end G37 Sport coupe falls in just under $52,000. The base 2.5 liter V6 produces 218 horsepower which is enough for most drivers but there is always room for improvement and Infiniti follows that mantra. The G37 takes it up another notch and offers 328 horsepower and 269 ft-lbs of torque from the 3.7 liter V6 with the sonorous exhaust note to match. That is enough power to get anyone in trouble so Infiniti loads the Gs with standard four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. These brakes have enough stopping power to haul the 3,600 pound G37 to a screeching halt especially if fitted with the optional electronic brake assist.

The G series is most certainly a drivers’ car. The leather and alloy appointed interior all lean toward the driver. The underpinnings and suspension follow suit. Coilovers up front and a multilink out back keep things planted on the windy roads where this car really shines. This car is grippy through the corners and has more than enough power to pull through and exit a turn at speed. The traction and stability control come standard on all vehicles in the lineup but the all-wheel drive X coupes and sedans are the real stars in the hairpins.

The entire lineup is aggressively priced and offers a multitude of options for the consumer. The G25 and G37 are offered in rear or all-wheel-drive along with various body styles. The sleek 2-door coupe is the sexiest of the bunch, while the 4-door sedan is the most practical option. The hardtop convertible alters the lines of the vehicle a little too much and virtually eliminates trunk space with the top down. With the whole group bringing in 16 to 20 miles per gallon in the city and 24 to 29 miles per gallon on the highway, this is still a practical car despite its performance underpinnings.

The interior is appropriately appointed with fine leather and alloy trim throughout. The steering wheel has a solid feel but does become a bit mushy at higher speeds with the speed sensitive steering feature. The optional Bose stereo fills the cabin with music but the larger V6 does produce quite a bit of road noise on the highway, especially with the larger wheel options.

If you rarely have backseat passengers, like to drive in a spritely manner and want a head turning vehicle with loads of amenities all at a very competitive price then look no further than the Infiniti G series. A coarse, peppy V6 and tight, crisp handling really make this car a lot of fun to drive on the twisty bits and long hauls on the interstate.

There is always a G for everyone.

There is a G for everyone.

Sleek styling, precise handling and a peppy V6 available in sedan, coupe and convertible; that’s the story behind the 2012 Infiniti G37. Smooth lines, a laundry list of tech goodies and performance to match make the G series a serious competitor in the entry-level luxury car market.
