2012 CHEVY SONIC

If you need a car that is unbelievable on gas mileage and/or if you like small cars, the Chevy Sonic is one you really should go take a look at.  I’m not one that usually likes smaller cars.  I get claustrophobic easy at times.  However, after seeing the Sonic gets 40 mpg on highways, and MSRP only starts at $14,635, I would seriously consider purchasing a small car for once!  Who can beat that?  If there is a car that can, I have yet to hear about it.  While on a trip (on the highway), the Chevy Sonic will take you almost 500 miles on a tank of gas.  That is crazy.  Almost sounds too good to be true, but Chevy stepped up and made it happen!

This car is in a class of its own for many reasons.  It is the only small car made right here in the United States.  The Sonic won the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick award.  Offering ten airbags is something the Chevrolet Sonic offers that no other car in its class does.  Another great point to make is it is the only car boasting a 1.4 turbo charged engine in its group.  0-60 in 8.2 seconds is undoubtedly something to brag about.  You will not get bored driving the Sonic.  It offers the option of driving it manually as well as automatically, with a 5-speed transmission.  Hill Start Assist is an awesome feature to have, as it does, to help you get started on those sometimes tricky hills without rolling backwards.

Some might say small cars don’t offer enough cargo space.  And I guess that would depend on what you are hauling.  The room in the rear, though, might surprise you.  With backseats folded down, there is 30.7 cu ft. room of space.  Enough to do a lot more than you might think.  Huge grocery trips will not be a problem with the Sonic.

A nice option is Stabilitrak, a program used and available in many Chevrolet cars.  If you have not read about this in any of Clutch’s other reviews, it is a system used to maneuver brakes, roads, and engine torque as needed per road condition.  Very good safety feature to have.  One may also start their Sonic using their phone.  Yes….. I said your phone.  Mychevrolet mobile has an app you may download using your smartphone that works with your car to assist you with many different things  from maps, remembering where you parked, or scheduling a service appointment.  Onstar is also offered free of charge for the first six months, and available for a small monthly fee afterwards.

There is not a whole lot more you could ask for considering the price its offered for.  With the economy the way it is, and gas costing a fortune, this would be a great car to consider when driving to work or to run errands.  It’s a very comfortable ride, and I especially think I would enjoy it more in the warm months when I could open the sun roof and take off!  The color orange I had on the Sonic didn’t hurt either.  Just wish it had been a little lighter orange (for my Tennessee Vols of course). But Clemson or  Texas fans, you’ll love it!   Go to a local Chevrolet dealer and check it out for yourself!
